The Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE) will welcome Lee Smith, our Head of Design, on 11th February to talk about real collaboration between engineers and industrial designers at Harper Adams University, 7.30pm. The event is open to non-members, and one not to be missed! In a demanding market such as agricultural machinery, industrial design is becoming more important in order to attract greater sales and market share. Taking the lead industrial design role in projects including; Great Plains’, formerly Simba, TL300 Stubble Cultivator, Lee will explain how Haughton Design was able to develop a fresh aesthetic identity for the line of stubble cultivators to differentiate them from the competition and strengthen their overall brand. Benefitting from Haughton Design’s extensive knowledge of fabrication techniques, Lee was able to produce a design that was aesthetically striking whilst maintaining cost effective manufacturing techniques. The project was very successful with the product now on worldwide sale. Having trained as an industrial designer and then moving into detailed design engineering, Lee is able to provide a unique insight into the common battles between the disciplines and how these issues can be overcome. Industrial design can blend seamlessly into design engineering to produce innovative and appealing products.
